Broken

Gentle hands gave into the clay
embracing with deliberate movements
forming the holey vessel.
Glazed, heavy drops fan out in perfect spirals
falling to one side as in a hard rain
that celebrates the dance of water.
Halfway down, the pattern becomes its’ opposite,
like negatives do from photographs.
‘Peru’ is etched on the bottom
an artist’s name clearly marked,
and personal attachment is felt,
like a love letter that has been received.
Hands respond
touching smooth curves
holding ... bonding.
Time stands still,
and it falls away surreal,
crashing down onto the cold tile floor.
Gathering pieces of a shattered spirit
mixed with tears and earth,
the remnants of so many things
placed aside, away... for another time.
Months pass, even years,
when remains are found in some forgotten box,
dusty, but held in fond memory
as one rainy day, when the urge came to find glue.
In a tender moment of healing,
and even though it is incomplete
with fissures and crakes throughout its’ core
as does a once broken heart,
it is made whole again.
